Pfizer Animal Health Preventicare Program and Colic Assistance Plan
An Incentive Program that Works for Horses and Their Owners
The Pfizer animal Health Preventicare program and Colic Assistance Plan allow horse owners who work closely with their veterinarians up to $5,000 to pay for emergency colic surgery and aftercare. The program started in 1997 and has been growing steadily in popularity through some advertising, but mostly by word of mouth from happy horse owners. Many horses, including some owned by veterinarians, have been sent to colic surgery and survived, thanks to Pfizer’s program.
With PreventiCare, your veterinarian enrolls you horse and provides the six following services over the course of the year:
- Annual physical exam
- Annual dental exam and treatment
- Appropriate vaccinations
- Daily use of Strongid or C2X
- Twice yearly avermectin treatment
- Nutritional counseling
If the horse owner follows the above schedule and is not disqualified (by having a horse which has had previous colic surgery, had a bout of colic in the last year, or a history of chronic colic, or is under five months of age or over twenty years of age), then Pfizer Animal Health will reimburse the operating surgeon for surgical costs and three days of aftercare up to $5,000. If you want more information about this program or want to enroll, please call the office or visit Pfizer.
