IRAP: Technology that Repairs Joints
Do you have a horse on Legned? Adequan? How about a horse that gets regular joint injections? Has your horse been diagnosed with joint arthritis, OCD, or a fracture?
For the past year PCE has been using IRAP therapy to fight joint inflammation which leads to deteriorating arthritis. Autologous conditioned serum (ACS), which is acquired from the horse’s own blood, is used to stimulate the production of interleukin-1 (IRAP) which decreases joint swelling and enlargement. The ACS system uses glass beads exposed to chromium sulfate to stimulate the bodies own immune system to fight inflammation in osteoarthritic joints.
According to Drs. Frisbie and McIlwraith at Colorado State University’s Equine Orthopaedic Research Center, “Horses treated with ACS were observed to have significantly improved lameness in osteoarthritis joints.” We believe this cutting-edge technology has benefited the horses we have treated as well, and encourage any owner whose horse may be a candidate for this therapy to contact us.
