Digital Ultrasound

Dr. Anez using the ultrasound to evaluate this horse's respiratory system.

PCE has a Phillips digital ultrasound system. We are one of the first private practices to own one of these advanced machines although they have been used in the past year by several equine centers in leading universities. The superior image quality and detail allow us to diagnose small ligament tears and suspensory ligament injuries much quicker and more accurately than conventional machines. We can also scan abdomens, perform cardiac evaluations, and diagnose pelvic and back muscle pathology with this system. Images are recorded and stored via computer and therefore can be cataloged and viewed sequentially for each patient.

However, one of the best features of this machine is its capability of allowing quantitative analysis for tendon measuring. Our doctors measure the images from the scan and apply them to software which analyzes the images to produce an injury score. This enables us to give the horse a more accurate diagnosis, prognosis for return to work, and individualized treatment plan.
