Happy Trails Riding Academy

Pacific Crest Equine is a proud sponsor of Happy Trails Riding Academy for Therapeutic Horsemanship. Happy Trails Riding Academy is a non-profit therapeutic riding facility dedicated to providing therapeutic horsemanship services to physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged individuals since 1984. HTRA’s riding program is accredited through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, and is located right here in our backyard of Visalia, CA. Recently HTRA made its first land purchase and moved to a new permanent home on a 25-acre site at Ave 256 off Mooney Blvd. Every year in the spring Happy Trails holds its annual fundraiser which includes dinner, a silent auction, and live entertainment. We encourage the horse community to give to this wonderful charity and to help make their program a success by attending their annual fundraiser. Happy Trails will also accept donations of tack, suitable horses, and of course volunteers. You can reach HTRA at 738-0128.

Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines

Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines has been providing aged and abused horses with a life-long home for over 100 years. Located in the countryside of Pennsylvania, they are a non-profit organization that receives no public funds and relies on the support private donations to care for the horses that reside there. These horses are not ridden or asked to perform any work. They are simply allowed to live out the rest of their lives in a pasture, with grooming and veterinary care as needed. The average cost of housing one horse per year is $5,500.  Please visit the Ryerss website or call (610)469-0533 for more information.

United Pegasus Foundation

The United Pegasus Foundation is now preparing for the 2002 Premarin baby horse rescue. Premarin is a hormone that is used in women and can only be obtained through the urine of pregnant mares. There are many farms in Canada where horses are kept in confinement and bred for the production of urine, with the bi-product of thousands of unwanted foals yearly. The United Pegasus Foundation goes to the mare farms each year, negotiates with the farm owner to purchase the foals or bids against the meat buyers at auctions. The foals that they save are then brought to the United States to find homes.  The United Pegasus Foundation also attempts to educate doctors who prescribe this hormone therapy and women who may use it about the many safe and effective alternative hormone replacement therapies available. If you would like to consider adopting a foal or making a tax-deductible donation to sponsor a foal please contact the United Pegasus Foundation at (626) 279-1306 or visit their website.
