The Glass Ball: technology to suppress behavioral estrus in the mare
Owners are seeking veterinary assistance more and more frequently to suppress behavioral estrus in their performance mares. Our clinic has followed the advice of reproduction specialists by recently starting the practice of inserting specialized glass balls into the uterus. These balls, which resemble large marbles, have the advantage of stimulating the mares own production of progesterone (which suppresses the heat cycle), unlike implants or oral hormone therapy. This new therapy is safe for the mare and very economical.
